How do you know if you’re buying real silver?
Real Mexican silver always has at least two marks (or stamps) on each piece. The first mark is “925.” This means the object is 92.5% silver (better known as sterling silver). The second mark should read “Mexico” or “Mex.” This is important, because it’s illegal to stamp “Mexico” on any silver-colored metal that isn’t real silver.
How inexpensive is too inexpensive?
If the price seems too good to be real silver, odds are, it’s not real silver. Your best bet is to buy from a reputable dealer. Many of NCL’s Shore Excursions include stops at fine stores and boutiques that offer great buys. Can’t get enough? Our on-board shops have plenty of genuine sterling objects
that are sure to catch your eye as well.
How difficult is it to keep silver shiny and new?
Silver will not tarnish as long as you wear it against your skin. For silver items you are not constantly wearing, tarnish is easy to remove. Even if it has been tarnished for 10 years, silver cleaner will restore it to its original
shine in no time.
